ACAD PolyLine, SPLine and Blocks

ACADR14 PolyLine, SPLine and Block entities do not translate with correct levels. An attempt was made to explode them prior to translation, but this resulted in a loss of entity info., such as line thickness and colour etc. Is there something obvious that we may be doing wrong, or a solution to this problem?
